Gmail attachment limit increased to 25 megabytes

June 28th, 2009

Sending large attachments via e-mail is a big no-no, unless the recipient is aware of the e-mail and has the size ok. There are means other than email to send large files to the recipients. It would for example be possible to transfer the file to one of the countless hosts file, the hundreds of gigabytes of free space.

Gmail, Google popular e-mail service, has just the limitation of the plant from 20 megabytes to 25 This could be interesting for users who regularly e-mails with large attachments, but also for Gmail users who want to backup files by using them to their Gmail account. The plant is of course in both directions, which means that it is possible to send e-mails with a size of up to 25 megabytes, but also receive e-mails that below this limit.

The new Gmail attachment limit seems to be enabled in all Gmail accounts already, unlike other changes to the e-mail service, which usually get rolled out over time. It should also be pointed out that users need to ensure that the recipients of e-mails can show that the size. It may happen that the e-mail providers reject these emails as they may have the maximum size of the e-mail service.
