Post-Processing Scanning Software Scan Tailor

Not every scanning software offers the means to post-process the scanned documents. Even those that do sometimes do not make it very comfortable for the user to process large quantities of scanned papers. That’s where the Open Source scanning software Scan Tailor might step in. Scan Tailor is “an interactive post-processing tool for scanned pages” which means that it does not offer scanning functionality but the option to work with pages that have already been scanned.

The software program basically allows the user to process scanned documents for printing or publication as pdf or djvu documents. New projects are started by selecting a folder on the computer system that contains the scanned pages. Scan Tailor will automatically create the subdirectory out which it will use to save the processed pages.

Scan Tailor will automatically check the dpi of all scanned pages and ask for corrections when necessary. Everything afterwards is handled in one interface. Six different processing options are provided by the program. This ranges from changing the orientation of the pages to splitting them, selecting the context box, deskew and the page layout. All of the changes can either be applied to a single page, the page and the following ones or all scanned pages.

The output resolution (dpi) and color modes can be selected in the last step. All processed pages are then stored in the out folder that has been previously been created.

Scan Tailor can be a helpful program for computer users who work with scanning software or scanned documents. The automated options combined with manual editing afterwards make it an ideal processing tool for scanning software that does not offer these features. The program can be downloaded from its Sourceforge project page.
